My experience with ISF (International Student Fellowship)

My experience with ISF (International Student Fellowship)

ISF is one of the best organization which helps foreigner student to experience about Korean Culture and Korea. When I came to Korea I don’t know how to experience Korean culture but fortunately one of my Indian friends told me about ISF. I joined ISF in 2010 and first time I went to FAM Tour to Suwon.
                          Trip to Human City- Suwon

The 47th Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival FAM Tour in 2010. The trip to suwon was one day but we experienced many things about human city. I met with many foreigner friends.I also went to DMZ in 2012 and met with Korean Military who is working for their country. I talk to them and also ate together. Food was simple and healthy. They told us many animals and bird come from North Korea. The border of North Korea and South Korea is full of natural beauty. There are so many species of plants and animals are found on the border. Every day people from many countries visit this place and feel the pain and sorrow of division.

                                                             TRIP TO DMZ

We visits DMZ Tour farm land and experienced how Korean people doing farming nearby DMZ. We saw the mushroom farming.

                                                     Visits to Film City

Gyeongsangnam-do

   Trip to Harmony Gyeongsangnam-do

경상남도

(Map of Gyeongsangnam-do)

South Gyeongsang Province, or Gyeongsangnam-do, is a province in the southeast of South Korea. The provincial capital is located at Changwon. It contains the major metropolitan center and port of Busan. Located there is UNESCO World Heritage Site Haeinsa, a Buddhist temple that houses the Tripitak Koreana and attracts many tourists. Automobile and petrochemical factories are largely concentrated along the southern part of the province, extending from Ulsan through Busan, Changwon, and Jinju. As we see the close look of Gyeongsangnam-do its full of tradition and  modernization and there is lack of these kind of characteristic in other places of Korea. This place truly represents the modern Korea means unique blend of 'tradition and 'Modernization'. Our Trip to Gyeongsangnam-do Province start from 30th of October form Seoul Station nearby exit 9 and became one of the memorable trip in Korea. So, I am going to take you on the unique and memorable journey of Gyeongsangnam-do Province of republic of Korea.

  2012.10.30 (First day) :

Hwagaejangteo Traditional Market
                         (화개장터)

Front gate of  Hwagaejangteo Traditional market

Hwagaejangteo Traditional Market (화개장터) is the Korean traditional market which is located in the Gyeongsangnam-do경상남도 the South East part of Korean peninsula.

The Hwagaejangtoo traditional market is very old Korean style market which looks like the life line of village life. This traditional market looks like the all Korean traditional product is assimilated in to small area.

The specialty of this market is herbs, roots and medical items. There are many traditional ingredients full of well beings food items.

There are traditional pots, bowls, follower bulbs and the most importantly the traditional blacksmith. This proves that Korean people still maintains still traditional in spite of globalization and cronic capitalism. There is natural smell of Korean village market and its feel the real Korea village life. The people, products and environment looks very genuine and full of traditions.

Traditional tea experience: Hadong Green Tea하동 녹차
Hadong geographical region is nations’ largest production area of wild tea.
Chi-ri Mountain, with its wild Scent…
Silently Seated and half of the tea drunken,
Its perfume still cheerful as the first sip,
Calm taste emerging from its scent,
There flows drops of water and blooms flower
-            Poem written by a Korea’s famous writer Kim Jung-Hee

Korea traditional tea always brings refreshment and new energy in our body. Most fascinating is the way of Korea tea ceremony. This shows Korean people are very respectful for their guest and also play very good role as host.
We follow the how tea is served to the guest. we had very Good experience as well as good memory.
We love Korean traditional tea. Loves and hugs J

Hadong traditonal village (하동 전통 한옥 마을)

First day we slept at traditional village which was very calm and natural. Night was cold but there was good facility for living. Korea always care for their guest. Korea is wonderful host for tourist. We enjoy the night and sleep well.
Trip to real Korean Village..
The lantern remind me my village life in India..:)

2012.10.31 (Second day): Well Being Day

Sancheong Museum of Herbal Medicine( 산청의학박물관):

대박!! ㅋㅋㅋ
We learn lots about Korean herbal medicine in the Sancheong Museum. Its shows Korean people are very health conscious. we foreigner should learn from Korean herbal medical system which is very good for health and there is no side effects.

Tripika Theme park (대장경 테마파크) : The tripika theme park in Hapcheon is full of historical details of Korea. The theme park also has a books and information regarding the life of Buddha. Theme park represents the traditional life and culture of Korea.

I was surprised when I saw the Sanskrit writing inside the theme park. I was overjoyed by Sanskrit script.

                            Haein Temple (해인사)

Haeinsa is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism in the Gaya Mountains of South Gyeongsang Province. Haeinsa is most notable for being the home of the Tripitaka Koreana, the whole of the Buddhist Scriptures carved onto 81,350 wooden printing blocks, which it has housed since 1398. Haeinsa is one of the Three Jewel Temples of Korea, and represents Dharma or the Buddha’s teachings. It is still an active Seon practice center in modern times, and was the home temple of the influential Rev. Seongcheol, who died in 1993.
We walked to reach to the Haeinsa temple. It was so beautiful mountain, water and colorful leafs. It was so beautiful and natural.

The temple stay at Haeinsa was one of the memorable moments in my life. We slept at 9pm and wake up at 3am. It was different experience from normal life. We did 108 times bow which was very painful.

       2012.11.01 (third day):
        trip to Island

                             Somaemuldo island  (소매물도)

A short, hour-long ferry ride from Tongyeong Port will take you to the best attraction of Hallyeo Maritime National Park, Somaemuldo Island. Located at the end of the Korean Peninsula, the island is well known for its oddly shaped rocks of the coast cliffs, the clear and blue sea, the beautiful Deungdaesum Island, which is often shown in movies and commercials.

Somaemuldo island : We are enjoying the panoramic view.

Passing through the 500~600-year-old camelli woods for 30 min from the pier at Somaemuldo Island and we reached to  Mangtaebong Peak, the top of the island.

The peak is a natural observatory to enjoy the many islands of Tongyeong and Geoje Haeguemgang River. The view of Deungdaesum Island is indescribably beautiful. Somaemuldo Island is also one of the best tourist sites toward the end of the year because of the magnificent view of the sunset and sunrise.

The lighthouse, which is the only facility on the island, was built by Japan during the Japanese Colonial Period (1910-1945).

The highlight of Somaemuldo Island is Deungdaesum Island, also called 'Haegeumdo.' This island is so small that it takes only 20 min to walk around. The white lighthouse on the hill and green grass make for romantic scenery.

All friends are dancing and singing in the way to Somaemuldo Island..:)

The 150-meter waterway from Somaemuldo Island to Deungdaesum Island is where the miracle of Moses takes place. Two islands are connected with a gravel road twice a day when the tides ebb. Deungdaesum Island, covered with wild camomiles from late October to early November, is especially fantastic. The trip was fantastic we had lunch also on the top of mountain. Indeed it was great experience.

The naval Battle of Hansan Island, also known as the Battle of Hansan-do, took place on August 14, 1592 near the Korean island of Hansan, and was one of the most important battles of the Imjin War. Korean admiral Yi Sun-sin destroyed at least 47 Japanese ships, captured 12 and killed over 8,000 Japanese sailors and marines. Yi's success in this battle became a turning point in the war.

                      Dongpirang Village동피랑마을
                                       View of Dongpirang Village
Dongpirang Village, Tongyeong's museum of street art, is on a high hill just northeast of the old harbor. It's a neighborhood that was going to be torn down for redevelopment (probably for an apartment complex where these relatively poor residents can't afford to live), but the residents used art to rouse public opinion and get the city authorities to prohibit the development.

This place is Dongpirang, a small village located in Tongyeong,
South Gyeongsang Province, where small colorful houses are gathered together under the clear autumn sky. The walls that lead to the village are decorated with fairy tale-like paintings. The fish, morning glories, ants and small bugs can be found on the winding walls of Dongpirang

                                    Photo Zone at Dongpirang Village

          2012.11.02 (Last day):
      trip to heavy Industry

Samsung Heavy Industries tour: Grand industrial Zone
Samsung heavy industries area looks grand. With the bird eye views its looks there is no human beings only heavy tools made of iron, steel and others materials.

My Experience of this trip:  Trip to Gyeongsangnam-do is one of the memorable trips for me. I never forget this trip. The Korea Branding and New Korea New Thinking team arrange wonderful trip to us that’s makes one of the most memorable trip in Korea. 3 nights and 4 days, we enjoy every moments. From traditional village to Samsung heavy industrial Zone, learn many things from this area. This area is balanced and harmonious in every aspect of life. My friends from Yeosu  was very emotional during the opening ceremony and I realize that the dream and hope is hidden behind this Expo. Now, The city know to worldwide...

Yeosu Expo 2012
First time (May 2011) foreign friends get together at Hyundai building near by 안국 station to support to Yeosu Expo 2012 and every body promise that we will work at 봉사활동 but i did not participate because of time constrain.
First time i know about yeosu expo in may 2011 and journey to Yeosu expo begins... :))First time we don't have much information regarding Yeosu Expo but closeness to Expo starts when i met with many people behind the Yeosu Expo . I got many close friends like Kim Sara, Yu-jin Byeon, Mina,  Gwang Doo Kim,  조용환, Jeong Wong Kang, 박준서   Haehy Song,  and 윤혜림.
I started community on Facebook tile as "Yeosu Expo with you".                     http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/213020485426977/. There are 384 members on this community and many get lots of information regarding the Expo Expo. Many friend used to upload the picture of Yeosu Expo and also share their experience about Expo.

May 2011 we are at 아리랑 studio for advertising Yeosu Expo 2012.
I was little scared because i have to ask long question and also speak some of my idea about Yeosu Expo in the  the program of "Heart to Heart"

What is Yeosu Expo all about?

An International Exposition recognized by the International Exhibitions Bureau(BIE) which opened May 12, 2012 and will run until August 12, 2012. The theme of the Expo is The Living Ocean and Coast” with subthemes of “Preservation and Sustainable Development of the Ocean and Coast,” “New Resources Technology,” and “Creative Marine Activities.”

There are  105 countries participated in the Expo. Like most world's fairs, the international participants occupy the largest area: a large International Participants Pavilion that also includes a huge overhead video screen over its central axis. Other notable buildings on site are the Korean Pavilion, the Theme Pavilion, and the Aquarium. Off-site an Expo Town was built to house the workers during the exposition. These buildings will become housing after the exposition.

                                                     Yeony and Suny Expo Mascot

Yeony and Suny is  the official mascots of Expo 2012. The mascot duo are anthropomorphic plankton, who serve as both nutrients for marine life but also absorb carbon dioxide. It’s no coincidence that the beginning of their names, put together, creates the name of the host city: Yeosu, which means “beautiful water.”
